LANCE GIDEL
PRESIDENT

 

Lance founded Gidel & Kocal over 30 years ago, creating a commercial construction company that delivers high quality construction and tenant improvements with a personal touch. To this day, Lance remains involved in overseeing the success of every project.

From project managers to laborers, he’s created a tight-knit group of professionals, each reflecting his own sense of professional zeal. He continues to be involved in projects ranging from small tenant improvement projects to ground-up, new construction of 20,000 to 50,000 sf retail/commercial buildings on multi-acre lots.

In addition to leading Gidel & Kocal, Lance has spent 25+ years teaching Design and Operation of Building Systems I and II classes for Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA). Lance holds a Masters in Education from the University of San Francisco. His RPA classes are recognized and accepted by the State of California Department of Real Estate for continuing education credits. In addition to being a licensed general contractor in California, Lance is licensed for commercial construction in Nevada, Washington and Hawaii.

John Alley
Project Manager

For over 25 years at Gidel & Kocal Construction, John has acted as Superintendent and Project Manager utilizing his Construction Management Certification from San Jose State University.

John monitors the communication between clients and the subcontractors as well as maintaining the daily Gidel & Kocal manpower schedule, ensuring that your original schedule stays intact.

As project manager, John coordinates and supervises the field staff and site superintendents. During the close-out process, John confirms that the final details of each project have been successfully achieved and that we have reached client satisfaction. John has managed a range of specialized projects, including the Washington Mutual Bank Observation Facility. This 7,500 square foot tenant improvement required the encapsulation of an adjacent server room, ADA bathroom upgrades, and construction of soundproof testing lab and observation room.

John's responsibilities include:

• Provides field staff coordination and supervision.  He is responsible for weekly scheduling of all field staff
Coordinates field staff training and certifications
• Marketing
• Coordinate with clients to facilitate any client needs
• Bidding of projects
• Scheduling of projects
• All submittals and change orders to clients
• Set up and attend weekly meetings with clients
• Close out packages
• Supervision of onsite superintendents

Ashley Gidel
Project Manager

Ashley utilizes her Business degree from the University of San Diego and background in Real Estate as a Project Engineer. She is OSHA 30 certified and assists the team in all the day to day tasks of a project.


She has experience with all phases of a project including: collecting bids, permit processes, issuing and tracking Change-Orders and RFI’s as appropriate and in a timely manner, preparing subcontract agreements and coordinating subcontractors, reviewing and approving project related invoices, facilitating jobsite meetings and preparing meeting minutes, as well as preparing and submitting submittals. She is organized and efficient in assisting the completion of any project that she is a part of.

Rick Steiner
Project Manager

Rick Steiner joined Gidel & Kocal Construction in 2013. He has over 15 years experience in commercial construction and extensive experience in residential construction. He transitioned to commercial construction, working for JJ Albanese as a Project Manager.

 He has experience in ground-up construction as well as general tenant improvement work.   As a project superintendent, Mr. Steiner has worked closely with city, state and federal agencies to ensure projects meet specified requirements within often limited time frames.

Rick's project responsibilities include:

• Develop, maintain, and adhere  to project schedules and budgets
• Coordinate and oversee employees and subcontractors on assigned projects
• Where applicable, order and secure project supplies to meet the project schedule
• Update and work with clients during the build-out process.
• Review and submit client billings to appropriate Gidel & Kocal administrative staff members
• Coordinate and submit as-builts, warranties and all close-out material at project conclusion
• On –site safety program enforcement

Lilian Ramey
Project Manager

Lilian joined Gidel and Kocal Construction as Project Engineer in 2014 and quickly was promoted to Project Manager within the year.  She has over 10 years experience in Construction Management in Silicon Valley.  

Lilian is very organized and responsive with her clients.  She enjoys the challenge of high-rise TI’s and Market Ready projects.  She understands that Class A high and mid-rise buildings have special rules and considerations that don’t apply to standard office buildings.  She has also managed several building renovations, market readies and T.I.’s in two story office buildings.  Lilian takes pride in making sure that all current and future tenants are comfortable during and after construction.  She utilizes her AB degree from University of California, Davis on a daily basis.

DAVID BAIRD
Project Manager

David manages all aspects of ensuring your project is done on time and within budget. With years of commercial construction experience, he’s adept at preparing accurate estimates and project schedules.


As project manager, David is in charge of coordinating the work of multiple subcontractors on each job and keeping you informed every step of the way. At Gidel & Kocal, David has managed GSA projects, medical and dental office build outs, bank retail remodels, ground-up auto dealership projects, as well as tenant improvements in a variety of structures.

Joining Gidel & Kocal as a carpenter, David quickly worked his way through the ranks proving to that field knowledge is key when managing projects. In addition to being well versed in ADA and environmental codes, David is certified and has managed asbestos abatement projects. With an advanced education specializing in electronics, David holds degrees in advanced electronics and computers from Diablo Valley College and AC/DC theory and electronics from Heald Institute of Technology.

Steve Smith
Project Manager

Steve Smith joined Gidel and Kocal Construction in 2014 with over thirty years of commercial construction experience.  Steve’s experience includes ground up and tenant improvement work on projects ranging from medical, restaurant, retail, banks, offices and manufacturing facilities.

Steve's main focus since joining our team has been developing new client relationships with several large electronic manufactures and he has recently completed two “state of the art” facility improvements ahead of schedule and within budget. He is committed to the company’s vision, ensuring that his team focuses on guaranteeing “On time completion, with zero punch lists”, enforcing safe job sites and providing quality assurance to our clients.
Steve attended North Harris College in Houston Texas and his father owned a commercial construction company which sparked his passion for construction at an early age. He resides in Santa Cruz Ca. and enjoys being outdoors and camping with his wife and four daughters.

Mike Habing
General Superintendent

Entering the construction field as an Apprentice in drywall and metal stud framing, over the next twenty years, Mike advanced to and gained a variety of construction experience in project management and job supervision. His strong points in management include job scheduling, handling multi-phase projects, supervisory skills, and ensuring secure, well-maintained jobsites.

After joining Gidel & Kocal Construction in 2003,  Mr. Habing managed ground-up auto dealership retail projects, warm shell conversions to bank and office use, as well as the conversion of office space to medical laboratory and treatment facilities.

Mike's job responsibilities include:

• Develop, maintain, and adhere to project schedules and budgets
• Coordinate and oversee employees and subcontractors on assigned projects
• Where applicable, order and secure project supplies to meet the project schedule
• Update and work with clients during the build-out process

ALYSSA PEDERSEN
OPERATIONS MANAGER

Alyssa joined us in 1999 as an Accounts Payable Assistant while obtaining her degree in accounting from San Jose State University. Read less

KELLY ACEVEDO
MARKETING DIRECTOR

Kelly has worked in the construction industry since 2002.  She started as a part-time marketing specialist and quickly worked her way to Operations Manager. While holding this position, she oversaw the daily operation of work productivity and marketing. Kelly has been in charge of human resources, all aspects of accounting and daily client communication. Kelly now acts as Director of Marketing and Accounts Payable at Gidel & Kocal.
